Mr. Goodwin Jr., 89, Bolivar, died at the St. James Veterans Nursing Home in St. James. He was born in Big Wells, Texas, the son of Ezell and Mildred Goodwin, and the oldest of two children.
He was a U.S. Air Force retiree of 20 years. He obtained his college degree in 1958 at the University of the Philippines in Manila, P.I. He married his high school sweetheart, Alberta Mae Armstrong, Jan. 10, 1946, and they shared 68 years together.
Survivors include five children, Terry Goodwin and wife Patricia of Bolivar, Michael Goodwin and wife Janice of Phoenix, Ariz., Tony Goodwin and wife Linda of Springfield, Va.; Kathryn Goodwin of Springfield and Vanessa Goodwin Zapata and husband Humberto of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, Shawn Goodwin and wife Angela of Fayetteville, N.C., David Goodwin of Bolivar, Barbara Goodwin of St. Louis, and Marco and Elena Zapata of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Segie Pilgrim.
His remains will be cremated. Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors and officiated by Chaplain James O. Friend under the direction of Murray Funeral Home, Bolivar Mo.
