Josephine Marie “Jodi” Elliott, 86, formerly of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Ottawa Retirement Village West.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Dengel & Son Mortuary.

Family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2014, at the mortuary.

Interment Central Cemetery, rural Pomona, Kansas.

Jodi was born Monday, January 23, 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of William C. and Viola E. (Schuler) McCane.

She lived in Kansas City, Kansas until 1957; moving to Shawnee, Kansas, from 1957 to 1971; Pomona, Kansas, from 1971 to 2010; and Ottawa, Kansas, from 2010 until her death.

She graduated from Turner High School and attended Kansas City Bible College and Johnson County Community College.

Josephine was united in marriage with Floyd Benjamin Elliott, Jr., October 25, 1945 in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2014.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; half sister, Barbara Payne; and half brother, Phillip Payne, Jr.

Survivors include her three daughters, Connie Hoyt and husband Darrel ; Joyce Sheffield and husband Ron ; and Pam Miller and husband Gary ; six grandchildren, Melissa Hatfield and husband Scott, Michael Hoyt and wife Priscilla, Angela Meinke and husband Paul, Christopher Miller, Josh Sheffield and Meghan Miller; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Nicholas and Bryce Hatfield, Mya and Jackson Meinke, and Nathaniel, Lyndsey and Elliana Hoyt; brother, William McCane and wife Barbara; two nephews, Brian and Neil McCane; and niece, Verena Cox.

She worked in the early 1960’s and 1970’s, at Shawnee Mission Hospital, as a supply clerk; during the mid 1970’s, she was a bookkeeper at Patterson Chevrolet of Ottawa; and later served as bookkeeper at Ottawa High School and Middle School, from the late 1970’s until her retirement in 1986.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Ottawa, and Pomona Extension Homemakers Unit.

Jodi will be remembered for her love of family and their time spent together. She loved traveling with her husband, and having all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her, making each day and holidays special memories for her family. She created beautiful crochet pieces, was an avid reader, enjoyed being outside on the farm, loved having Floyd take her shopping, and most importantly, valued her relationship with God.

She will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends forever.
