Barbara Jean Ulman, age 78 of Spicer, died on June 9, 2003 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 10 am on Friday, June 13, 2003 at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer with the Rev. Terry Sletto Officiating. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
Barbara was born on July 18, 1924 in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Ethel (Oman) Martinson. She grew up in Staples, Minnesota where she graduated from Staples High School. Barbara then attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where she received her degree in Nursing. She worked as an RN in the St. Paul and Edina areas. On July 26, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ray Wm. "Bill" Ulman Jr. Following their marriage the couple lived in the Twin Cities, and in 1955 they moved to Moorhead. Four children where blessed in this union. In 1971 the family moved to Spicer. Barbara bought the Alpha Home in Spicer, where she owned and operated the home until 1988.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Moorhead and was active with the choir, circle and the annual church spaghetti supper. She also did much volunteer work for Churches United feeding the homeless. Barbara was currently a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer where she was active in the choir, circle, and the church bazaar.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Mary Ulman of Alameda, CA, David ( and Sherry) Ulman of Audobon, MN, and John Ulman of Spicer, MN and three grandchildren: Melissa Steinhaus, Shane Soehren, and Bobby Ulman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter: Nancy Jane Soehren, and sister Frances McLaren.
