Colin "Morgan" Rogers, 82, of Richmond, Virginia, husband of Evelyn Marguerite Cornell Rogers, "Peggy", went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 28, 2015. He passed away in Richmond, VA of complications of Multiple Myeloma.

Morgan was born in Front Royal, VA on July 10, 1932, the son of the late Percy Lawton Rogers and Mortie M. Morgan Rogers, both of Virginia.

He grew up hunting, fishing, hiking, and spelunking near the Skyline Drive with his father and siblings. Guiding in the Skyline Caverns was the "coolest" summer job in town.

He graduated from Warren County High School, class of 1950, where he lettered in football, and met his future wife when she was only 12!

He followed most of the men in his family to Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of the ROTC. His studies were interrupted by Army service for two years in the Korean War.

Upon his return, he married his sweetheart, and completed his degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a passionate fan of VA Tech football, and is a member of the VA Tech Old Guard.

Morgan worked in private industry early in his career. His positions were in quality control as well as research and development.

The young family lived in Lakewood, OH and Baltimore, MD before they moved to the West End of Henrico County in 1962.

Morgan headed Water Purification as a Senior Utility Engineer for the City of Richmond beginning in 1971. At that time, the City purified most of the drinking water for the Richmond metro area.

After the water treatment plant was flooded twice in his first few years, he spent 10 years collaborating on the flood wall project to protect the City. He trained the current head of water purification for Henrico County in his later years before retiring in 1997 as the Water Utility Administrator.

Peggy and Morgan have been active members of Welborne United Methodist Church since 1962, where Morgan held many positions. Peggy sings in the choir, which Morgan joined after his retirement, believing that he should "make a joyful noise". Peggy and Christy send special thanks to the musicians who helped him participate.

He also enjoyed the camaraderie of the men's ensemble, and was active in the adult Sunday School classes for over 50 years. Morgan lived his faith, and was respected for his persistence and generosity.

Morgan was bitten by the gardening bug early, as were all of the Rogers' men. Everything was grown from seed, and his beloved tomatoes were his "babies".

Morgan was a descendant of Micajah Rogers, Sr., amongst the premium peanut farmers of Surry County, VA, as well as the Reverend Edward Morgan, founder of Methodism in Southwestern Virginia.

The Rogers' store museum is a recent successful activity of the Surry County Historical Society, of which he was a member.

Morgan had a natural sense of rhythm, which showed in his ballroom dancing, a pastime which he and Peggy enjoyed for many of their 60 years together.

Another passion was bridge, which brought out his risk taking side. The couple enjoyed the support and companionship of the Deep Run Bridge Club.

Morgan was a lifelong Republican, and loved to discuss issues, especially if he knew that the other person did not share his views.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; and his children, Christy E. Cornell, MD of Richmond, and Jeffrey M. Rogers of Purcellville, VA (Lisa). John N. Follansbee, MD of Scotland, his former son- in-law, also survives him. His grandchildren survive him as well, Laura K. Follansbee of Richmond, and James L. Rogers of Purcellville.

Morgan is survived by all of his siblings, John T. Rogers, PhD, (Eleanor), of High Point, NC; Mary Jane Chetelat of San Anselmo, CA, and Charles M. Rogers (Kakki) of Powhatan, VA.; and nine nieces and nephews.

Surviving first cousins are Mrs. Patty Townes of Hopewell, and Howard Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia. Extended survivors in Peggy's family are Barbara S. Cornell of Richmond, and Betty Williams (Marvin) of Williamsburg.

A graveside service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 200 W. Prospect St., Front Royal, VA on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

A memorial service to celebrate Morgan's life will be held at Welborne United Methodist Church, 920 Maybeury Drive, Richmond, VA on April 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

The Reverend Beth Givens will officiate at both services.

Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral home in Richmond is assisting the family.

Memorials in Morgan's honor may be made to Welborne United Methodist Church, Massey Cancer Center or the Department of Nephrology, both of VCUHS.

The family is especially grateful to Drs. Gehr, Ginder, Davia, Schutrumpf and Vetrovec, along with their teams, for their years of compassionate care. Faiz Oley and his Westbury Pharmacy team have served the family well for over 50 years.

The family wishes to acknowledge special friends Valerie Kirby Moore, Janna Baumgardner, Dianne Graham and Mike Barber, who did so much to support Morgan and the family, as well as their many church and bridge friends.
