Marilyn Swensen, 81, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Marilyn Violet Daugherty, the daughter of William and Garnet (Gibbons) Daugherty was born July 24, 1934 in Madrid, Iowa and graduated from Madrid High School in 1953.

On September 4, 1959, Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald Swensen in Polk City, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made their home in Madrid, Iowa before moving to Fort Dodge in 1968.

Marilyn was the Community Christian School preschool director and teacher for many years.

She enjoyed her crafts, her grandchildren and to being outside.

Marilyn was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She was also involved with Women’s Ministries, the Christian Women’s Club and read for IRIS.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Kurt Swensen; nine grandchildren, Kurt Swensen Jr., Kody Swensen, Kelsey Swensen, Kollin Swensen, Kyle Swensen, Ben Brandow, Audrey Brandow, Michael Swensen and Tori Swensen; two great grandchildren, Jaden Swensen and Beau Brandow; brothers, Kenneth Daugherty of Newton, Iowa, Bill Daugherty of Ralston, Nebraska, and Merrill Daugherty of Madrid, Iowa and a her sister Leora Sowder of Madrid, Iowa.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Don on March 11, 2016; her parents; son, Dr. Steven Swensen; daughter, Sandra Brandow; grandson, David Swensen; and a brother, Merlin Daugherty.

Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, May 9, 2016 at the First Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Scott Hatton officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
