M.A. Pennington

DIMMITT - M.A. Pennington, a retired Southern Baptist minister and a special education teacher for the Dimmitt school district, died Wednesday at a Wichita Falls care center. He was 82.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Foskey Funeral Home in Dimmitt is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pennington was born in Comanche County.

He was a graduate of Howard Payne College and received a bachelor of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

His first wife, Christine Speed Pennington, died April 24, 1988.

Survivors: Wife, Bobby F. Datray Pennington of Dimmitt; two daughters, Sarita McDonald of Burkburnett and Ida "Penny" Finney of Lampe, Mo.; step-daughter, Bobette Dodd of North Richland Hills; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. M.A. Pennington, 82, formerly of Dimmitt, died Jan. 12.

Services were Friday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Kenley, pastor, the Rev. David Kuykendall, the Rev. Claude Tipps and the Rev. Lamoin Champ officiating. Burial was in Westlawn Memorial Park by Foskey Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

He was born in Comanche County and moved to Irving in 1989 from Dimmitt. He graduated from Howard Payne College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a Southern Baptist minister for 45 years, pastoring churches in Proctor, Green's Creek, Morgan Hill, Alexander, Gorman, Rose City and Dimmitt. He was a special education teacher for several years with the Dimmitt Independent School District before retiring.

He traveled on mission trips with International Crusades to Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil and Chile. He was a past president of the Castro County Senior Citizens Association.

He married Christine Speed in 1931. She died in 1988. He married Bobby F. Datray in 1989 at Burkburnett.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sarit [sic] McDonald of Burkburnett and Ida "Penny" Finney of Lampe, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Bobette Dodd of North Richland Hills; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
