Raymond Henry Handfield, Jr., age 84 of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Ayer, MA on October 20, 1931, the second child of Raymond H. Handfield and Mary Harriet Messenger (both deceased)

Surviving him are the children of his brother Joseph Handfield (deceased) and their families.

Mr. Raymond Handfield, was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music (trumpet) in 1955. His Master’s degree was from Boston University in 1963. Raymond was a veteran of the USAF serving as a navigator from 1956 – 1959. He taught instrumental music and directed school bands in Waltham, MA. Springville, NY and at Trickum MS in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He retired after a thirty year teaching career. Also, Mr. Handfield served as an assistant principal trumpet starting in 1983 for the Callanwolde Concert Band before taking over as Director in 1985 (1985 – 2016). Mr. Handfield’s other activities include an avid interest in duplicate bridge, a lifelong love of golf and the pursuit of “striper-fishing” on Lake Lanier.

The Memorial service to Honor and Celebrate the Life of Raymond H. Handfield, Jr., will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 8:00 PM at Tom M. Wages, Snellville Chapel. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Memory of Raymond Handfield to the Salvation Army, 3455 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA, 30044.
