PALMORE, Russell Vaughan Jr., 64, of Richmond, died April 7, 2011. He was the son of the late R. Vaughan Palmore and Conde Booth Palmore, of Ashland. He is survived by his wife, Susan Armstrong; his daughters, Annie P. Witthoefft and her husband, Ned, of Richmond and Jessie P. Yancey and her husband, Steele, of Nashville; his grandson, Charles Russell Witthoefft; and an unborn grandchild; his sisters, Conde P. Hopkins and her husband, Ron, and Lelia P. Wehman and her husband, Paul; his cousins, Fred Palmore, Ann Palmore, Scott Pierce and Cliff Pierce; and numerous nephews, nieces, and godchildren. Mr. Palmore was a native of Ashland. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School and attended St. Christopher's School as a post-graduate. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College where he was captain of both the football and baseball teams and was president of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia. In 1973, Mr. Palmore joined the law firm of Mays, Valentine, Davenport & Moore, which later became Troutman Sanders, where he was a partner for 32 years at the time of his death. He was a past president of the Richmond Bar Association, a past president of the Virginia Law Foundation, and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Palmore was dedicated to the Episcopal Church. He served as Chancellor to the Rt. Rev. Peter James Lee and the Rt. Rev. Shannon Sherwood Johnston. He was a past member of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Virginia, was elected Deputy to nine Triennial General Conventions and served on the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Richmond, where he served on the Vestry, including terms as Senior Warden, and in many other capacities. Mr. Palmore served on the Board of Church Schools for the Diocese of Virginia, the Edgar Allen Poe Museum Board, the Board of Directors of the Commonwealth Club, and the Board of Directors of Forward Movement Publications (Day by Day). He was also a member of the Country Club of Virginia, where he excelled at golf. Above all, Russ treasured his family. He will be remembered for his good humor, his loyalty to friends, his devotion to his church, his love of tradition, and his affection for all sports, especially baseball. The family will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 815 E. Grace Street, Richmond, on Monday, April 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 815 E.
