John "Jack" A. Kays 85, of Magnolia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.Jack was born on May 4, 1931 in McNabb to Harold Hurschell and Violet (Bjork) Kays.He married Marge Simonton on July 21, 1951 in Rockville, Maryland.Jack graduated from Magnolia Swaney High School. He was a self employed farmer and operated Wagon Wheel bar and restaurant.Jack was in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955.He was a member of the Magnolia United Methodist Church, Magnolia American Legion, Magnolia Cemetery Board. He also had served on the Lostant School Board.Survivors include his wife Marge, of Magnolia; two sons, Hurschell (Joleen) Kays of Magnolia and Brad (Shelley) Kays of rural Hennepin; one daughter, Jill (Doug) Smith of Magnolia; one son-in-law, Paul Smith; ten grandchildren, Justin Kays, Ryan Kays, Brandon Kays, Joshua Kays, Andrew Kays, Kayne Smith, Evan Smith, McKenzie Taylor, Kayla Harris and Kendra Theodosopoulos; 19 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren, Mike Brozak and Renae Killen.He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one niece and one daughter, Jackie Smith.Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
