It is with great sadness that the family of Martin Patrick Picco, 89, of Lunenburg announces his peaceful passing on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Born in St. Joseph's Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late John and Eileen Picco.

After the war, he sailed on the CNR ships out of St. John's, Newfoundland and later moved to PEI where he spent 13 years as Master of Fishing Trawlers out of Souris and in Petit de Grats, where he met and fell in love with his sweetheart, Clementine (nee Boudreau ). They married in 1956.

He later attended navigational school in Toronto to obtain his Master's Home Trade, a Fishing Master's certificate of Competency and Tug Boat certificate. He later became Master of the Fisheries patrol vessel "Scatterie Light", for the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. During the first 18 months, he worked out of the Fisheries School in Pictou.

After returning from the Middle East, he became a fishing gear coordinator for the province of Nova Scotia. In 1980, he accompanied Donald Robertson, Supervisor of the training school in Pictou, and James McLevey,Director of Training in Halifax, to Belize, South America.
