George Aandahl was born August 1, 1882, to J. S. (Jorgen Soren) and Martine (Ericksen) Aandahl in their farm home in Svea Township, Barnes County. He was the first white child born in the township. He grew up in that community, spending most of his life there with the exception of five years from 1890 to 1895 when the family was in Norway on business and after he retired. He attended the Gusaas school for his elementary education.

Bessie Krogen was the teacher in the District 24 Svea School during the term of 1901-1902. She boarded with Sam and Mamie Aandahl, George's brother and his wife. Bessie was the daughter of Nels and Ingeborg (Swiggum) Krogen, born January 22, 1880. At first to George she was just another teacher. Bessie stayed in the community continuing to teach until George finally noticed her and by July 1, 1903, they were engaged. On July 2 or 3 of that year, George made out a loan at the bank in Litchville of $10 so he and Bessie might have a good Fourth of July. He repaid the money in the fall. On December 24, 1904, they drove to Valley City where George bought a suit and at 5 p.m. they were married in the home of Sam and Mamie, who were then living in Valley City. They 22 mile ride to the farm that evening may have been cold, but who cared?

Their Svea farm was home for the next 50 years. Here they raised their family and helped build the community. They retired and moved to Valley City. Bessie died February 26, 1957. George spent his last years in the Sheyenne Manor and died January 23, 1967.

Clifford, their son, attended the University of North Dakota, married Agnes Erickson of Amery, Wis., and they had four children: Carol Joyce, Judith Claire, Pamela Jean and George Edwin. Both Clifford and Agnes are deceased.

Andrew, the other son, attended North Dakota State University at Fargo and Iowa State. He married Effie Smith of the Svea community. They had three children: Virginia Ann, Elizabeth Louise and Dennis James. Effie is deceased and Andrew makes hi home in Bella Vista, Ark.
