The funeral of Mrs. S. J. Aandahl was held from the farm home, in Svea township, Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, and was attended by a large number of neighbors and friends of the family.

Rev. J. S. Wilde, pastor of the Methodist church of Valley City, conducted the services and preached a very good and comforting sermon. A local choir, composed of Mrs. Boehm, Mrs. Hammerud, Mrs. A.P. Hanson, Miss Ester Reinehr and John Sortland sang two touching and appropriate hyms, with Miss Rose Olson as piano accompaniest. The pall bearers were Charles Trager, Tobias Olson, W. A. Johnson, August Anderson, Louis Miller and C. W. Anderson. Interment was made in the cemetery at Valley City, at the side of the husband who departed this life less than a year ago.

Deceased was born in Phoenix, Michigan, on July 1st 1886, being 57 years of age at time of death. When she was fourteen years old, in 1880, her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lawry, came to Sanborn and homesteaded five miles north of that little city, and here the deceased grew into womanhood. In November, 1896, she was married to Mr. Aandahl, which union was blessed with two sons, Fred, aged 26 years, and Sam, aged 21. She is also survived by five brothers and one sister, namely: Same and James, of Philipsburg, Montana; William of Missoula, Montana; Henry, of Haselton; Ed., of Sanborn, and Mrs. Matt Stinson, also of Sanborn.

This is the second time within the past twelve months that a funeral cortege wends its sad way from the Aandahl home, the first time carrying away the earthly remains of the husband and father, and now those of the mother. The grief-stricken sons have the sympathy of every heart in the community in this, their great loss. May they remember that "God in His wisdom doeth all things well."

"Body of Svea Township woman found last night by students of State Teachers College"
Mrs. Sam Aandahl, of Svea Township, wife of the late Sam Aandahl, former railroad commissioner, disappeared very mysteriously two months ago and until her remains were found last night by two students of the college on the hill close to the State Teachers College, no trace of her had been found.
It appears that Mrs. Aandahl and her son, Fred, came to Valley City on the 13th day of June this year. Fred was looking after some business in the city and his mother was doing some shopping and visiting. She went and called on her friend, Mrs. Lyman and then was going to call on a Mrs. Berg and other friends and finally to meet her son later at the Rudolf Hotel. Fred waited until late in the evening of that day and she did not come. He did not think so much of that at the time, figuring that she was calling on friends and intended remaining over night. The next day she did not appear and then the family commenced to get worried at her absence and not hearing anything from her, a few days later a search was put in operation and no trace of her could be found. The sheriff had been notified and he helped in the search and everything done to try and find out the whereabouts of Mrs. Aandahl to clear up her mysterious disappearance.
Last night, while walking near the college in the trees, two students came across the remains of some person then unidentified on account of the decomposed condition of the body and the authorities were notified. Fred Aandahl, in the city last night and on investigation identified the body as the remains of his mother, finding her hat, a bank book, and other papers that identified her beyond question. Coroner Martin Somdahl is taking care of the remains and we expect an inquest will be held to ring out more facts in the case.
No theory has been advanced as to why Mrs. Aandal disappeared or how she came to her death and until more facts are brought out by those investigating the matter, no statement will be made along these lines.
Sam Aandahl, the other son, arrived in the city last night, after being called up by the authorities, and the two boys are now in the city trying to get this deplorable matter straightened out. The deceased would have been 57 years old in July. She has been a resident of Barnes County for a long time and the finding of her dead body last night in such surroundings and in such shrouded mystery, is a great shock to the family and to a lot of friends all over the county.
