Austin Wyatt Abbitt, age 11, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. After an 8 year battle with brain cancer, he passed away surrounded by his family. Even though Austin faced great challenges towards the end of his life, he showed tremendous courage, unending faith in the Lord, and displayed his typical loving spirit - one that will always be remembered by those who love him. He was born in Edmond, OK and attended John Ross Elementary in Edmond. He loved playing soccer and basketball. He also enjoyed cheering for the Oklahoma City Thunder. His football favorites were a bit harder to define as West Virginia, Texas A&M, OU and OSU competed for his attention. Although it was Ivan, the Labradoodle, that really captured Austin's heart. He was not just a furry, four-legged friend but a true companion. He too, will miss his two-legged friend. Austin is survived by his parents Wyatt and Shilpa Abbitt of Edmond, big brother Sean, and grandparents and several aunts and uncles of Texas and West Virginia. He is also survived by numerous cousins living in North Carolina, New York, Georgia, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Texas, and India. He was a regular attendee of LifeChurch in Edmond. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, at LifeChurch, Edmond Campus. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Austin's name to: The American Cancer Society , 6525 N. Meridian Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73116 or Hospice of Oklahoma County, c/o Integris Foundation, Suite 1600, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
