Son of George Francis Abbitt,Sr and Otway Culvin Moorman.

Brother of Dora,Eloise, Watkins M.Abbitt, Sr, Herbert M.Abbitt and Charles W.Abbitt.

A Virginian by birth and heritage, he was a descendant of Major Thomas West whose family came to the United States from England in early colonial days.

He graduated from Appomattox High School and from 1925 to 1928 he attended the University of Richmond. In 1931 he received the LL.B degree from T.C. Williams School of Law.

On March 3,1935 he married Sarah Josephine Cundiff of Altavista, Virginia and had two daughters. He secondly wed Harriet S Unknown, the widow of James Richard Redding.

Entered private practice of law in July 1931 and, from January 1942 to December 1947, he was Substitute Trail Justice for Appomattox County. In January 1948 he was elected Commonwealth Attorney for Appomattox county and served in that office until 1964, when he was appointed Judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit. In 1976 he Retired as Judge of Virginia's 10th Judicial Circuit.

Member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Member of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity.
