INFLUENZA IS AGAIN FATAL And City Mourns Loss of Well Known Matron

Grand Island today mourns the loss of one of its most prominent and highly respected young matrons, in the death of Mrs. O. A. Abbott, Jr., whose untimely demise occurred at 6:30 o'clock last evening after an illness of one week from influenza, which later developed into pneumonia. For the past few days her condition had been critical. Yesterday afternoon a sudden turn came for the worse, and after lapsing into unconsciousness, the end came quickly.

Mrs. Abbott, nee Ella Bartenbach, only daughter of George Bartenbach, was born in this city on Sept. 4, 1885. She grew to young womanhood in this city and was prominently connected with all social activities. Since the necessity for war workers became acute, Mrs. Abbott likewise took an active part in war work and was an untiring and efficient worker. After completing her education in this city she attended Brownell Hall, Omaha. On Sept. 11, 1910, in this city, she was united in marriage to Othman A. Abbott, Jr. To this union was born one daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth. Mrs. Abbott was a member of the Episcopal church and of the Eastern Star. Mr. Abbott and small daughter, who have likewise been ill for the past week with influenza, are convalescing nicely at present.

Besides her bereaved husband and daughter she is survived by her father, George Bartenbach, and one brother, Henry Bartenbach, all of this city. Her mother preceded her in death several years ago. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the residence, 503 West First street. On account of the influenza epidemic the services will be private. The deep condolence of the many friends of the family is extended to them in their bereavement.
