CAIRO - Juanita A. Powers, 98, of Cairo died Friday, Nov. 22, at Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo with Rev. Robert Wiest officiating.

Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggest to the Cairo Senior Center.

Mrs. Powers was born Oct. 14, 1893, at Chapman to Jacob and Elizabeth (Taylor) Abbott. She was educated in Chapman and attended Peru Teachers College.

Mrs. Powers taught school until 1912, when she married Edward Powers on May 28, 1912, at Central City. They farmed in that area until 1932 when they moved to Cairo.

Mr. Powers died in 1963. Mrs. Powers was a resident of Lakeview Nursing Home since 1988. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Mrs. Powers is survived by two sons, Paul of Morion Valley, Calif. and ONald of Cairo; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters, three sons, and a grandson and one great-grandson.
