Aaron was a veteran pilot of World War II. After his discharge he attended the University of Alabama for a short time but he returned to the military and was eventually stationed in Japan.

He was a member of the 39th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 35th Fighter-Interceptor Group.

He was listed as Missing in Action during a mission on November 1, 1950 and was presumed dead on October 22, 1951. His remains were never recovered.

First Lieutenant Abercrombie was awarded the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
