nyshistoricnewspapers.org SULLIVAN COUNTY RECORD, Jeffersonville, NY in an issue printed December 19 1929 pg 1: Alfred Abplanalp aged 25, formerly of Fosterdale and William Duffy his helper age 42 of New York were killed by inhaling gas while asleep in a rooming house in New York City on Sunday.

The body of Abplanalp was shipped to Undertaker Valentine at Cochection under instructions from the young man's mother, Mrs Gerogie H Abplanalp and his sister, MRs Preston Theiss of Fosterdale. Funeral was Friday and interment in the cemetery by Valentine
Members of the Binghamton Moose Lodge were pallbearers.
Born in Fosterdale May 30 1904 son of John Abplanalp who for many years was an O & W policeman and Georgia H Hill daughter of the late Sheriff George Hill. Alfred's father died of pneumonia at Hancock quite a number of years ago; and since then 2 of Alfred
s brothers had also died away from home.
Leaves wife whom he married in Binghamton; mother and sister of Fosterdale; another sister Miss Esther H Abplanalp nurse in the New Jersey state hospital at Cedar Grove and 2 brothers Egbert and Lawrence of Middletown; also his great aunt Miss Ella M Story of Fosterdale who has always been on of the family.
