Abraham "Abe" Abrahams, 91, who was a soldier at Fort McKinney when war with the Indians was at it's height, died Thursday at the veteran's hospital at Fort Mackenzie where he has been a patient since 1942.
Mr. Abrahams was born Aug. 20, 1860, in London, England, and spent his early life in New York. He came west after joining the United States army to serve as an Indian fighter. Following discharge, he was employed as a ranch hand for several years near Buffalo and moved to Sheridan about 1892.
He was married to Miss May Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson of Sheridan, on Feb. 23, 1896. She preceded him in death about 11 years ago.
Mr. Abrahams became well known in the Sheridan community for his work and curios, and later as a furrier and taxidermist. He was interested in growing flowers and raised them for commercial purposes at his home on Emerson street.
He suffered a heart attack and sustained a broken hip in a fall at his home and was taken to the veterans' hospital on July 17, 1942.
He is survived by one brother-in-law, June Wilson, San Francisco, and a nephew D.C. Dudley, Oakland, Calif., both are former Sheridan residents.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. from the Reed mortuary with Chaplain Gerald A. Sutton of Fort Mackenzie officiating. Burial will be in the Wilson plot in the municipal cemetery.
