A native of Iberia Parish and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Ackal died on Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at his residence. He was a veteran of the Louisiana Army National Guard.
Mr. Ackal retired from the House of Representatives in July 1996 after 24 years of service as state legislator. He also retired from the Governor's Office in July 1999, as a special assistant to Gov. Mike Foster. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Woodmen of the World, Knights of Columbus and the Optimist Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dalel Helo Ackal; five sons, one daughter, one sister, and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Ackal was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Mary Peters Ackal Sr.; one brother, Camille Peter Ackal; and one sister, Jeanette Catherine Ackal.
