Born in Racine County, Marie was 8 or 9 when the family moved to West Allis in Milwaukee County where she grew up.
Marie married Howard Woodward (b. 1905) in 1928 in West Allis. They had three children; Darrell, b. 1929, Cherie, b. 1931, and Lorilee, b. 1934. This marriage ended in divorce about 1954.
Next, she married Edward C. Abbey (b. 1887) in Washington County, Oregon on Feb. 14, 1962 (age 56) which is where the couple resided. It was also his second marriage (Edward's first wife died in 1961).
Her widowed mother Laura moved to Oregon in 1963 and lived with them until her death in Mar 1973.
Her husband Edward died in Mar 1970. Her granddaughter Raleigh Lyda died at age 24 in Nov. 1976.
After Marie's death at age 73 in 1979, she was buried with her parents in a family plot in Greenfield, Wisconsin. However, there is also a plot in Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove, Oregon where her second husband is buried (with his first wife) and she has a marker there.
She was survived by her three children (living in Oregon), two known grandchildren (by daughter Cherie); Valerie and Gregory Lyda, and by her sister Mrs. Frances Verick, brother Harold and nephew Glen Verick.
