A.G. Acker, Jr. died peacefully at home on the morning of January 29th, 2011, in Jacksonville, Tx. He was born on September 11, 1925, in Jacksonville, TX to Godbey and Kate Ellis Acker, both deceased. He had one sister, Freida Acker, also deceased.

A.G. attended Texas A&M, class of '46, for two years and then left to serve in the U. S. Navy during WWII. While stationed in California, he met and married his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Welker Acker, now deceased. They both returned to A&M and he graduated with a degree in business.

Following graduation, A. G. and Dottie returned to Jacksonville. A.G. went to work for J. B. White Co. and continued there as a partner for almost 50 years.

A.G. was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville and the Alpha Omega Sunday School class. He and Dottie were also members of the Twenty-forty Club. In his later years, his greatest joy was visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Angelina House, where he was never found far from his favorite companion, a cocker spaniel named Bo.

A.G. is survived by one son, Godbey Acker and wife Martha South Acker of Jacksonville, TX and one daughter, Donna Acker Hillin and husband Tom Hillin of Kerrville, TX.

"Paw Paw" is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren: Tamara Acker May and husband Ronnie May and their children Riley and Brenna of Tyler, Tx; Bry Acker and wife Jennifer Waller Acker and their son, Brayden of Arlington, TX; Amanda Acker Grissom and husband John Grissom and their children, Avery, Nash and Reese of Katy, TX; Thomas G. Hillin and wife Suzanne Thompson Hillin of Dallas, TX; Chris Hillin and wife Mavis Maldonado Hillin and their son, Hudson of Los Angeles, Ca.

The family would to express our deep appreciation to the wonderful caregivers that have been with us for many years: Vergie Lee, Wendy Reed, Gwen Herndon, Flo Taylor, and Lola Ragsdale. We also wish to thank everyone at Angelina House for the care given to both of our parents.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, TX on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 10:00 am with Reverend Joel McMahon and Reverend Jack Albright officiating.

Visitation will be at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville on Tuesday evening, February 1, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, TX, Hospice of East Texas, or to the charity of your choice.
