Helen Zimmerman Acklen, age 93 of Winchester, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System. She was born on November 6, 1922 in Franklin County, Tennessee to the late Michael E. Zimmerman Sr. and Carrie McLaughlin Zimmerman. Mrs. Acklen worked for Camp Forest in Tullahoma, Tennessee during WWII. From 1941 to 1945 she worked as the manager of Post Ex, and from 1946-1949 she worked as a book keeper at Shore’s Department Store. Mrs. Acklen was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Winchester. She was in the Morning Circle of the UMW, East Winchester FCE Club, an active member of the Busy Bee Quilters, and was a volunteer at the Southern Tennessee Regional Health System for over 10 years with the Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Acklen is preceded in death by her husband, William Acklen; son, Lynn Acklen; brother, Michael E. Zimmerman; and sisters, Betty Acklen, Carolyn Z. Mangram, and Hazel Z. Smith. Mrs. Acklen leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Cathy (Raymond) Miller of Kingston Springs, TN; son, Tony (Vicki) Acklen of Winchester; granddaughters, Kara Acklen and Maegan Acklen, both of Winchester; step-granddaughters, Megan Blakeney of Nashville and Kalyna Miller of Madison, FL; sister, Jean Z. Gipson of Akron, OH; brother in law, Herman (MaryAnn) Acklen of Winchester; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM Sunday, December 7, 2015 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
