She was born July 13, 1927 in Knox County, the daughter of Ralph and Mildred Swanston Gustafson. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Donna L. Acklin and a brother, Rolland Gustafson.

Surviving are two sons, Douglas J. (Kathy) Acklin and Daniel E. Acklin; three grandchildren, Heather, Jordan and Jared Acklin; a great-granddaughter, Addysen Thomas and two brothers, Robert Gustafson and James (Jane) Gunther.
