Alfred Don Adair, 74, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in Georgetown.
One of six children, he was born in Uvalde on March 24, 1931, to Lyman and Marjorie Adair, both now deceased, he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Wilson; and three brothers, Bill, Joe and Glenn Adair.
His wife, Dorothy Adair, who shared his life for fifty years, survives him. He and Dorothy Norman married on July 29, 1955, in the First Baptist Church of Combes, Texas.
He leaves behind two children, Donette Birkelbach and husband Jerry; Kenneth Adair and wife Courtney; a brother, Weaver Adair and his wife Elaine; four grandchildren, Brittney and Hunter Birkelbach and MyKayla Lockhart and Ryanne Adair; and many nieces and nephews.
He moved back to Uvalde his senior year in high school and attended junior college before joining the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from March 24, 1951, until March 20, 1955.
He began his long career with Luby’s in August 1960. He became are vice president in 1977, overseeing the Central Texas area. He was a fifty-year member of the Wichita Falls Masonic Lodge.
He retired after 34 years in 1994, never wearing a watch again and his title of choice became “Poppy.” He took up woodworking and became the “Sheriff of Gabriel View.”
He was a true and honorable gentleman, who will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation was Wednesday evening August 31, 2005, at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown. Funeral services were Thursday morning at the funeral chapel with Reverend Al Cummins officiating. Mike Guest delivered the eulogy. The pallbearers were his nephews. Burial followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown.
