Mayor of Buffalo, New York, 1906-1910.

The Scotsman - Saturday 24 February 1912, p 8:
THE LATE JAMES NOBLE ADAM
A DISTINGUISHED AMERICAN SCOT
(From a Correspondent)
Yesterday there was laid to rest in St Cuthbert’s Churchyard, Edinburgh, a remarkable Scotsman, James Noble Adam, though little known in his own country, won for himself a distinguished place among the public men of the United States. For four years he was Mayor of Buffalo, and by general consent his administration was one of the best that city had ever enjoyed. It began a new era in the municipal history of the city, and his successor in the Mayoralty said of him after his death that “no citizen of Buffalo in our generation had commanded more universal respect.”
