Elsie Mary Plows was born on October 23, 1889 in Lucas, Lucas, Iowa to Walter Herbert and Hannah (Rawson) Plows. She was the granddaughter of James and Susannah (Garbutt) Rawson Henderson and niece of Ann Elizabeth (Rawson) Plows and Henry Rawson.

Elsie Mary Plows married Alva Edison Adams on June 19, 1910 at the Baptist Church in Chariton, Lucas,Iowa. They later moved to Memphis, Tennessee.
They had one son, Ronald Adams, who was born on May 28, 1911 in Chariton, Lucas, Iowa and died on October 20, 1925 in Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee.

Elsie died from pneumnonia in the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Elsie Mary Adams funeral service was conducted by Rev. E. B. Ramsay at the J. W. Norris Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 14, 1927.
