On Sunday, October 16, 2016, Genevieve W. Adams found her way home. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00am at Wright and Ferguson Funeral home in Clinton, MS.

In her 88 years among us, Genevieve was a teacher to the "manner born." She was the first woman to graduate from the University of Mississippi with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering. During her 40 years as an organic chemist, she taught a wide spectrum of courses including: General Chemistry, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, BioChemistry, Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics.

Through National Science Foundation Grants, she conducted a variety of research at numerous educational institutions including: Michigan State, Emory, Indiana University, Oakridge, and the University of Mississippi. Here, close to home, she was the driving force that helped create Hinds Community College's School of Nursing.

Throughout her career, she sent many students to graduate school, Medical school, and Veterinary school who went on to become pillars in their own field. Education was an integral part of what she was as a person, wife, mother, sister and friend.

Genevieve W. Adams was a woman who made you smile, laughed with friends, loved her family and warmed the hearts of all who knew her. She was the bastion of her whole family - the "rock" who all leaned upon in their time of need. Her mother, father and siblings called her "Sister," her nieces and nephew (and great nieces and nephews) called her "Big John," and her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson called her their world. She will always be remembered and truly missed until we join her.
