LORAIN - Charles F. Adams, outstanding Lorain attorney for 61 years with criminal cases his specialty, died yesterday at 5:15 p.m. in his home, 1019 East Erie Ave. following a long illness. He was 86..
Mr. Adams was in public office first as city solicitor under Mayor George Glitsch and then became Lorain County prosecutor, serving from 1914 to 1916. He is credited with the defense of thousands of criminal cases in Lorain courts and in the early 1900's had as many as five murder cases pending at the same time. It was his boast that not one of his clients in the 100 first degree murder cases that he defended had been sentenced to death..
Later Mr. Adams went into private practice forming a partnership with his son, Lon, in the firm of Adams and Adams..
Mr. Adams came to Lorain from Olmstead Falls where he was born Sept. 9, 1872. He was graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College and the University of Michigan School of Law..
He was a member of the Lorain County, Ohio State, and American Bar Associations and was a life member of the Eagles Lodge..
His wife, Florence, died in 1955. Survivors besides the son, Lon, are grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. .
Friends will be received at the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home where services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Stanley J. Shoemaker of Shelby will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
