DEATH OF A GOOD WOMAN.
-----
At 6:30 Last Evening Mrs. Caroline J. Adams Entered Into Rest--Her Sickness and Death--The Funeral This Afternoon.

Mrs. Caroline J. Adams, wife of the late W. J. Adams, died last evening at 6:30 at her residence on East Sixth street.

"Cares and age come unawares," and so to this sweet and gentle spirit feebleness that was premonitory of the long-going-away, came on gradually, and three weeks ago, when disease stormed the citadel, he found little resistance. Day after day the loved ones of this good woman--a son and two daughters--saw the day of separation drawing on, as she came nearer and nearer and nearer to lifting the veil that divides the visible from the invisible. For days previous to her death her speech was affected, and she could not speak to the devoted son and two daughters who watched by her. But she understood all--their anguish, their love. She lived for them and was not only mother, but sister and friend. Her son, Mr. J. J. Adams, and eldest daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Anderson, lived with her, and their home was one where love reigned. The three were dependent upon each other. They sought and found in each other that sweet congeniality and companionship that made them all in all to each other.

This pure-spirited woman was a mother after the Bible type. She set her children a godly example and lead them in the paths that make for peace.

The world is better for such a life--pure, sweet, guileless: gentle but firm, quiet with a holy calm--a woman of character and gentle force, ruling always by love, and true to principle and purpose.

Mrs. Adams was born in Williamsburg, S. C., April 28, 1928. She was Miss Caroline Speights, her family being one of prominence, means and culture. She was married at 18 years of age, and she and Mr. Adams moved to Georgia to live. From there they came to Charlotte, in 1875, and this has since been her home. Mr. Adams died some years ago. They had three children, Miss Lizzie Anderson, Mrs. A. M. Hill, of Greenville, S. C., and Mr. J. J. Adams. Mrs. Adams was a Presbyterian. She and other members of her family were among the first members of the Second Presbyterian church, and her membership has always been there. She was devoted to her church, and was always in her place in the sanctuary, unless prevented by ill health. She was bright and had a kind word and a smile for all, and those who knew her loved, honored and revered her.

The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 5 o'clock, at the residence, by Rev. Dr. Stagg. The pall-bearers will be: Messrs. D. W. Oates, John McNeely, John McMillan, John R. Pharr, J. H. Wearn, W. J. Finger and T. M. Barnhardt and Dr. W. H. Wakefield.
