The Celebration of Mr. Aaron Adam's 77th Birthday:
Mr. Editor: In company with Photographer Cook, the writer attended today the family reunion of our old friend Mr. Aaron Adams at his home in the Primus section. The old gentlemean is 77 years old today and he and his good wife, who is 72 years of age concluded to celebrate the event by a big family gathering. There were in all 48 children, grandchidlren, sons in law and daughters inlaw present. The heads of family and the number in each family group in attendance were as follows: John Q Adams 5, B F Adams, 6, T J Adams 6, J N C Adams, 6, J C Mahaffey, 6 W A Adams 6, B A Hunter 5, Mary Jane Deas 3, James Adams 3, S L Adams 2. A picture of the large gathering was taken by Mr. Cook.
A Beautiful repast was served and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
Notwithstanding his advanced age, Mr. Adams is still a vigorous active man. He enjoys good health, and gets around faster now than many younger men. As is well known, Mr. Adams is a veteran of two wars, having served thrugh both the Mexican and Civil wars. He made a gallant soldier and his family should be and no doubt are, proud of his fine record. He is one of Lancaster County's most hghly respected, useful and upright citizens, and we fervently trust that he may live to see many returns of this day.
We never saw a more affectionate couple than Mr. and Mrs. Adams. They are truly devoted to each other and live most happy together. W G A. Porter, Lancaster, SC 25 Feb 1901.

Widows of Mexican Soldiers (sic: Mexican War Veterans) An Effort Being Made to Have their Pensions Increased --- Names of those in Lancaster County.
County Supervisor M C Gardner is doing what he can to have the national government increase the pensions of the widows of Mexican soldiers and he deserves much credit for his efforts. He recently wrote Senator Tillman in Washington on the subject and has received the following reply to his letter --
Dear Mr. Gardner,
I have your letter of March 30th giving me the names of certain widows of Mexican soldiers. It is very easy to get a pension of an old Mexican soldier raised, but to get the pension of a widow raised is an entirely different matter. Some of these old soldiers married quite young women and the Committee on Pensions is not very willing to increase the pensions of the widows unless they are in destitute circumstances and old and helpless. If you know of any cases like that among the number you mention and will prepare the papers and send to me showing that they are in destitute circumstances and old and helpless, I will try to do what I can for them. Mrs. JANIE ADAMS, widow of AARON ADAMS; Mrs. Mahala Gent, widow of John Gent; Mrs. Eliza Phillips, widow of Burell Phillips; Mrs. Elizabeth Gardner, widow of Ransom Gardner; Mrs. Sallie Jones, widow of C B Jones.
