AHERN, Judge F. Michael, 84, of Richmond, died Friday, August 1, 2008. He is survived by his loving companion, Margaux Spoden; one daughter, Kathleen E. Ahern of Newton, Mass.; two sons, Jon M. Ahern and his wife, Sheryl, of Virginia Beach, and Brian D. Ahern and companion, Anna, of Richmond; four grandchildren, Brendan and Emily Ahern, Justin and Amelia Simko; and his former spouse, Annette G. Ahern of Virginia Beach. Judge Ahern was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Notre Dame Law School. He served as Assistant Attorney General of Connecticut for 25 years and as a Federal Judge in Richmond for 30 years until his retirement in 2005. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a Lieutenant in the Navy. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1 p.m. Monday in the mausoleum at Westhampton Memorial Park, where services will follow at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens' Hospital. He was a loving and considerate father, a gracious and caring friend, and will be dearly missed.
