The following excerpt is from "The Patriots at Kings Mountain" by Bobby Gilmer Moss:
"AIKEN (EAKINS, EKINS), ALEXANDER
Alexander Aiken served in the militia from 1 June to 17 August 1780 and from 20 September 1780 to 3 February 1781. He was in the battles at Briar Creek, Blackstock's Plantation, Fishing Creek, and Kings Mountain. In addition, he was under Gen. Henderson at the Congaree from 1 June 1782 to 11 July 1782."
From contributor Steven Akins (47655472) January 2020: DNA testing done on descendants establishes that while Alexander had a son named Joseph, the Joseph Eakin buried in Abbeville, SC (memorial 86879516) is not Alexander's son.

Inscription
To the memory of Alexander Eakin / Who departed this life June 16 1806 / aged 63 years / How still and peaceful is the grave / To sleep in death's dark gloom / Until the eternal morning wake / The slumbers of the tomb / Why should we mourn departed friends / Or shake at death's alarms / Tis but the voice that Jesus sends / To call them to his arms
