Following the birth of a daughter, Harriet in 1897 and a son, James in 1899, Edward and Hattie remained in Iowa until some time between 1900 and 1910 Edward and Hattie moved to Long Beach, California with their two children. All the children born to Edward and Clara remained in Iowa and did not remove to California as far as it is known.
The 1920 census shows both Edward and Hattie, their two children and Edward's father-in-law, James E. Smith residing in Long Beach, Los Angeles, California.
