September 30, 1929 ~ July 6, 2010 Barbara Lucas Aldridge of Christiansburg, Va.,, by the grace of God, and with a strong belief in eternal life, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, to be reunited with her loving husband of 55 years, William "Bill" Aldridge, and the Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven.
She was a loving wife, a caring mother and grandmother, a wonderful sister, an educator, a mentor, a matriarch, a friend, a devoted Christian and an inspiration to all of those who knew her.
She touched and comforted so many people with the kitchen door always open and her warm smile inviting them to come sit at the kitchen table and visit a while. Whether her own child or friend, she provided "motherly advice" for those in need. Her motivation and encouragement were offered for anyone she met and this provided strength for her children and friends. She touched many hearts, minds and souls. Her memory and words will carry us all through this life.
She was a high school graduate from Auburn High School, also graduating from Lynchburg College. She was a lifelong member of Snowville Christian Church.
She is survived by her children, Lee Aldridge, of New York, N.Y., Bill Aldridge, of Christiansburg, Va., Sam Aldridge and wife, Kathy, of Gilford, N.H., and Beth Aldridge, of Marshfield, Mass.; sister, Sara Lucas Brown, of Christiansburg, Va.; brothers, George Lucas and Jim Lucas Jr., both of Christiansburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Betty A. Hodges, of Christiansburg, Va.; grandchildren, Kelly A. Noto and husband, Steve, Brannon Aldridge, Andrew Aldridge, Forest Aldridge, Libby Aldridge and Eamon Aldridge; great-granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Noto; and many, many special friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Horne Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Snowville Christian Church with the Rev. Jonathan Webster officiating. Interment will follow at the Lucas Family Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Medicine Shoppe of Christiansburg, Carilion Clinic Hospice and members of Snowville Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to "The Barbara and Bill Aldridge Memorial Fund for Youth" at Snowville Christian Church, c/o Mrs. William Guill, 906 Robertson Street, Radford, Va. 24141. The Aldridge family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, Va., 540-382-2612.
