Gordon served during WWII as an officer in the United States Navy, stationed in Key West. At the end of the war, he taught science for one year. While most of his professional life was with Cargill, Inc. where he served as a Vice President, he was active on many boards, including The Bureau of Engraving, the MPLS Society for the Blind, and American State Bank. Gordy was a longtime and active member of Richfield United Methodist Church, a member of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis #9, and an avid golfer and member at Interlachen Country Club, where he served a term as president and enjoyed the camaraderie of good friends.
