AUGUSTA, Ga. - Charles T. Alexander, age 77, of Augusta passed away, Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at his residence. A native of Dublin, he had resided in Augusta since being honorably discharged from military service in 1953. Mr. Alexander was a Professional Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor, obtaining his formal education at the Georgia Institute of Technology and receiving a degree in Civil Engineering in 1950. Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II and the Korean War as a navigator and pilot. After being honorably discharged from the service, he began his professional career in Augusta, working as an engineer for the City of Augusta. In 1960, he went into private consulting as Charles T. Alexander, P.E., R.L.S., Professional Land Surveyors and Engineers of Augusta. Mr. Alexander served as County Engineer for Richmond County from 1979 until 1983, after which he returned to private consulting in association with James G. Swift & Associates, until retiring in 1996. He was a longtime member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. He was active in the Independent and Republican Parties of Augusta. He is survived by his spouse of 52 years, Charlotte Hodges Alexander; two sons, Charles T. "Chuck" Alexander, III, Augusta, Ward Augustus Alexander, Kennesaw, three daughters, Paula Alexander McCullers, Marietta, Lynn Alexander Day, Lafayette, Indiana Carol Alexander Bateman, Martinez, one brother, Louis M. Alexander, Dublin, eight grandchildren, Travis, Alec, Christopher, Andrea, Lewis, Carly, Heather and Jordan; two great-grandchildren, Arlyn and Trent and numerous nieces and nephews.
