Very much anglophile, the irony is a bomb the RAF dropped on occupied France destroyed Allais's tomb in 1944! Though, a plaque on what was his tomb until 2005 (when what was left has been reburied in another cemetery, in Paris) writes: "Under this (steep) slab used to rest Alphonse Allais, writer and humourist, buried on Oct. 28th, 1905 - sublimated on Apr. 21st, 1944 by a bomb of the RAF, virtually transferred to Montmartre on Oct. 24th, 2005". The "steep" slab is a hint at Allais's taste for good booth...
