MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL
Alice Sekanick, The Hutchinson Family Including Clore, Blankenbaker, Kaifer, Garr, Snyder, Leutert/Lyter, Huffman, Arledge, Featherston, Wade, Rabb, The Gregath Publishing Co., Wyandotte, OK, p 28:
After the death of their first minister, William Kellar, Benjamin Allen became their pastor. He accepted the doctrine of Alexander Campbell which urged the union of all Christians. For some time, Campbell and his followers remained in the Baptist Church, but between 1827 and 1830 a separation of Campbell and his followers from the Baptist Church was completed, and the "Campbellites" began an independent existence as the Disciples of Christ. Reverand Allen left the Harrod's Creek Church, taking seven-eighths of its members with him, including members of the Clore/Snyder families. A Baptist later wrote of Reverend Allen:
"Benjamin Allen was a man of great zeal and activity, and exerted a strong influence. He brought many people into the Baptist churches, but he took many more out. The Campbellites owe him more, and the Baptists less than any other man that has labored in the bound of Long Run Association."
