Charles Clarence Allen, Jr.

Age 84 of Seaford, DE died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.

Born in Seaford to the late Nellie G. (Matthews) and Charles Clarence Allen, Sr., he was the former president of Allen's Hatchery, Inc. in Seaford. He was a graduate of Seaford High School, Class of 1936 and attended the University of Delaware on a football scholarship, graduating in 1940. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Charles was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Seaford, St. Matthews by the Sea, Fenwick, Island, the Seaford Lions Club, the Seaford Golf & Country Club, and he was active in the alumni of the University of Delaware. He enjoyed traveling and took a special interest in his community and state. He was very philanthropic to a variety of interests, supporting the University of Delaware and the BioTech Center that was name after him. Mr. Allen supported the Delaware Community Foundation, the Sussex County Cheer, the Nanticoke Little League and the Seaford Historical Society.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Huston) Allen, who died in 1987; and by a brother, John Reuben Allen, Sr., who died in March 2002. He is survived by his son, Charles C. Allen, III and his wife, Barbara of Seaford; and daughters, Julia A. Hopkins of Raleigh, NC and Jenny A. Stultz and her husband, Frank L. of Ft. Wayne, IN. His brother, Warren L. Allen of Seaford; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren also survive.

There will be a funeral service at 2 pm on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at St. John's United Methodist Church, Pine & Poplar Sts., Seaford, where family and friends may call from 12-2 pm. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford, DE and the Rev. David B. Humphrey and Rev. George Godfrey will officiate
