Edith May Allen, 90, of La Plata, MD, died November 9, 2008, at Charles County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Allen worked as an Audio-Visual Aide with the Prince George's County Board of Education. She was a member of the Eastern Star Joppa Lodge #270ES where she served as Warden. She was an avid doll and teddy bear maker. She was a seamstress for the WAC's during World War II.

She enjoyed crocheting, oil painting, and cake decorating. She volunteered at the Soldier's Home in Washington, DC, for five years. She was an accomplished ballroom dancer for which she received many awards. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church Piney Parish in Waldorf, MD.

Born September 15, 1918, in Lemington-Spa, England, she was the daughter of the late William Swinburn and the late Christiana Dobey Swinburn.

Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Elvis M. Allen; son, Rodney Wayne Allen; four brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce P. and her husband Jack Ferguson of Waldorf, MD; son, Christopher R. Allen of Centreville, VA; and a niece, Peggy Stark of Leland, NC.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 13, 2008, 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, La Plata, MD. Funeral Service will be Friday, November 14, 2008, 11 AM at St. Paul's Church, 4535 Piney Church Road, Waldorf, MD 20604. Rev. Joy Rose will officiate. Interment will follow at Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, DC.
