GALENA, Ill. -- Kenneth H. "Pete" Allendorf, 78, of Galena, died at 7:41 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, at home surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, Ill., with the Rev. Chris Kuhn, Rev. Daniel Tranel and Rev. Howard Barch concelebrating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, where military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2665. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

He was born on April 12, 1930, near Menominee, Ill., son of John C. and Anna C. (Miller) Allendorf.

He married Ada E. Hunzelman on Feb. 10, 1952; she preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 1988. He later married Mildred E. "Millie' (Fiedler) Stoewer on April 14, 1991.

Pete was a veteran of the Army, serving as a corporal during the Korean Conflict.

He was a dairy farmer for twenty years. He also owned The Bee Hive in Galena, and later drove a school bus until his illness.

He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Pete enjoyed playing euchre, traveling and working outdoors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred "Millie" Allendorf; his children, Kenneth M. (Carol) Allendorf, and Steven R. (Dianne) Allendorf, both of Galena, Margaret A. (Steven) Vandermyde, of St. Charles, Ill., and Thomas J. (Karen) Allendorf, of Dubuque; his step-children, Gary Stoewer, of Lamont, Iowa, Larry (Barb) Stoewer, of Elizabeth, Ill., Patti Hesselbacher, Sue (Mike) Meusel and Lori (Neil) Anderson, all of Scales Mound, Ill., and James (Leigh) Stoewer, of Galena; grandchildren, Holly Allendorf, Christopher Allendorf, Emily Vandermyde, Garrett Vandermyde, Justin Allendorf and Brittany Allendorf; step-grandchildren, Chrissy (Tim) Freese, Shane, Houston and Brennan Stoewer, Tracy Stoewer, Heather (Tom) Webster, Amanda Stoewer, Cari (Aaron) Miller, Candi (Dan) Meyer and Michelle (Jay) Baker, April (Brenden) Pautsch, Troy, Kurt and Shawn Meusel, Jillian, Cameron, Ben and Corrine Stoewer, Derian Phillips, Jalen Phillips and Maddison Anderson; 12 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Charles) Schultz, of Galena; two brothers, John (Vivian) Allendorf, of Shullsburg, Wis., and Gerald (Pauline) Allendorf, of Galena; and his beloved dog, "Sam".

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Betty (Melvin) Schultz, Rita and Darlene Allendorf, in infancy, and Patricia Bruns; and a step-granddaughter, Paige Stoewer.
