"The LaFayette Sun" - October 21, 1896:

Went Home on God's Day.

On the bright, beautiful October Sabbath, at the residence of her mother, on the South Highlands. Miss Hattie Jemison Allen bade farewell to earth. A lovable life, sweetened and sanctified by every grace of mind and heart, was brought to an abrupt close, but not before some of its rich promise had been redeemed. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
She was a sister of Misses Willie and Beff Allen of the High School faculty, and of Vassar L. Allen, Esq. Due notices of the funeral appears elsewhere.
The above from the State Herald of the 20th will be read with sadness. This lovable young lady was a sister of Mr. M. W. Allen, of this city, who was summoned to Birmingham by telegram. The interment took place at *Macon, Ga. The sympathy of the friends of the family goes out to them in this dark hour.

*Note: Hattie, her mother Margaret and her brother George Allen's obituaries all state they were buried in Macon, GA. At some point the remains were removed to Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
