FORMER UTAHN DIES ON COAST
Wife of Utah's 1st Congressman, Mother of Judge, Expires
Mrs. Corinne Tuckerman Allen, 75, wife of Clarence Emir Allen, Utah's first congressman, and mother of Florence E. Allen, Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, died August 11 in La Mesa, a suburb of San Diego, Cal., according to word received here Friday.
Mrs. Allen was formerly prominent in social circles here. She was president of the Ladies' Literary Club from 1895 to 1896. She also was an active worker and organizer of parent-teacher associations here. She spent two years in Germany studying school methods, on an extensive report.
Her husband retired in 1892 as general manager of the United States Smelting and Refining Company.
Mrs. Allen was born in Ohio. Her father was president of Oberlin College, Mr. and Mrs. Allen were married November 28, 1877. In 1881 Mr. Allen came to Utah. Mrs. Allen and their two children followed shortly afterward. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1927.
The local Clarence E. Allen post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars was named in honor of her son, who was killed in the World War.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband and the following children: Judge Allen, Dr. Esther A. Gaw, professor at the University of Southern California; Mrs. Frank Shockey, of La Mesa, Cal. and Mrs. Harrison Sloan, San Diego.
Private funeral and burial services were conducted in San Diego, August 12.
