ARCHDALE - Mrs. Betty Patterson Allen, 82, of Archdale passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro.
Betty was born August 19, 1929 in Guilford County, a daughter to the late C.E. and Clara Patterson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheron Deal. She married Charles A. Allen on July 30, 1947 and lived in several cities with her husband and family as he served in the US Navy for 23 years settling in Norfolk, VA for many years before moving back to Archdale in 1990. Mrs. Allen has been a resident of Archdale for the past 20 years. She retired from Ryder Transportation Service in Virginia Beach, VA with 20 years of service. Betty was a member of Archdale Friends Meeting and John Archdale Sunday School Class, and volunteered countless hours for Archdale SeCero Christmas Cheer Fund.
Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles A. Allen of the home; two children, Patricia Wallin and her husband Gordon of Marietta, GA and Charlie Allen of Archdale; four grandchildren, Ashley Wallin, Patrick Wallin, Jonathan Allen, Cheryl Meadows; and one great granddaughter, Corina Meadows.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, December 3rd, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Pastor David Mercandante and Pastor Harold Shives officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 am, Saturday, prior to the service.
