Claude Alston Allen was the son of James Anderson Allen, Sr. and James' first wife, Mary Alston Robinson Allen (1844-1870). James and Mary married on December 5, 1865 in Robinson Springs, AL. Mary A. R. Allen died in Montgomery, Alabama. Claude married Mary Fairfax Sherrod on October 18, 1888 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. Claude worked for his father in the grocery business in Birmingham, before becoming a grain broker. For 20 years he engaged in the grain brokerage business before he retired. Claude was in Miami, Florida for health reasons and suffered a heart attack. He went to the hospital in Miami and passed away about a week later. Claude was survived by one daughter, Amie Allen Finkernaur of St. Louis, Missouri, and Dr. James A. Allen, Jr. of Birmingham.

His body was returned from Miami, Florida to Birmingham, Alabama for burial in the Allen Plot, Oak Hill Cemetery by his daughter, Amie Allen Finkernaur.

Claude Alston Allen attended the University of Alabama (1884) and is listed in the Chapter Rolls as founder of the Alabama Beta Delta Chapter, of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. (The A.T.O. Palm, Volume 20, Pg. 283)
