Benjamin K. Alley was born in September 1837 in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Abner Alley and Sarah H. (Pratt) Alley. He was listed as registered in the United States Navy 1 Jul 1863 for the Civil War. He married Rosanna A. (McDavitt) McGarvey (1842-1915), on 27 Nov 1882 in Lynn, a first marriage for him, a second marriage for her. They had no children together. He worked in the shoe-making industry. He died 9 Feb 1904 in Lynn, and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.
