ALTHA MAY ALLINGHAM
---Altha May Porter, daughter of William E. and Ellen Hahn Porter, was born in Spring Grove Township, Warren County, Illinois on the lst day of May, 1868.
---She was the eldest of three daughters, her sister, Edna, preceded her in death in 1900. The other sister, Mrs. Kate Smith, survives and is present today. They were left motherless at an early age. The father died August 12, 1904.
---She was united in marriage March 23, 1893 to James H. Allingham. They made their home near Gerlaw, Illinois until February 15, 1906 when they moved to the farm three and a half miles south of La Plata where they lived until just one year ago today when they moved into their new home in La Plata.
---Funeral services for Mrs. Allingham were held at almost the exact hour of her coming into her new home. This date is also the anniversary of the birth of her father eight-eight years ago.
---On January 22, 1917 Mrs. Allingham was stricken with paralysis and from that time on was a constant sufferer.
---She was a devoted home-maker and since her illness she has been a patient sufferer beloved by neighbors and friends, who, during her long illness were trying in every way to show sympathy and love and to alleviate her suffering.
---The pallbearers were four cousins, Fred, George, Charles and Ralph Porter and her brother-in-law, M.S. Smith, all of Gerlaw, Illinois and Paul Shouse of La Plata.
---Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J.L. Shoemaker, pastor of the Christian Church and beautiful music was rendered by a quartet from the same church.
---There was present at the funeral, Mrs. A.A. Porter, Mrs. Fred H. Porter and Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Smith and son Donald, all of Gerlaw, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. George Porter and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Porter of North Henderson, Illinois, Mrs. Charles Porter of Quincy, Illinois, Mrs. John T. Morris of Peoria, Illinois and Mrs. John T. Risser of Chariton, Iowa.
