He was married to Pauline Maria Frogge (1904–1968), the daughter of James Arthur Garfield Frogge (1880–1932) and Catherine Maria (Lehrer) Frogge (1882–1960)..

Hugh passed away on June 14, 1972 and was buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
