He was born Nov. 22, 1930, in Slate, W.Va., a son of the late William Henry and Cora Belle James Allman.
John was a 1950 graduate from PHS and was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean War.
He was a retired self-employed Developer and Contractor, member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and a life-time member of the DAV. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed wood working. John loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a Baptist by faith.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Ruley Allman; one daughter, Julie L. Knight; three grandchildren, Jonathon C. Knight and Joni L. Knight, both of Mineral Wells, and Kristin Knight of Elizabeth, W.Va.; two sisters, Nona Huxley and Barbara Murnahan, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and two brothers, William "Don" (Margie) Allman of Davisville, W.Va. and Bernard R. (Jane) Allman of Raleigh, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert, Richard, and Ira Ray Allman; and three sisters, Thirza Garner, Esta Cusack and Isa Mae Miracle.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Bob Alfred officiating with full military rites by the American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 3-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family requests that donations be made to West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility, 1 Freedom Way, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
